OUR SCHOOLS
Education systems in the capital city provide employers with
a ready
supply of skilled personnel. Approximately 2,700 teachers
instruct more
than 31,000 students in the Lincoln Public Schools. The
state university
system accommodates more than 50,000 students. In addition,
Nebraska
Wesleyan University, Union College, Doane College and
Southeast
Community College are located in Lincoln.
Lincoln teachers have the opportunity to enroll in
late-afternoon,
evening and summer school courses at these colleges and
universities. A
variety of graduate programs are offered through the UNL
teachers
college. Teachers who work with UNL practicum students are
given points
by UNL to exchange for graduate course hours. The college
provides a
full range of masters and doctoral programs that allow for
specialization in many areas such as educational psychology,
evaluation
and testing, counseling, educational administration and special
education as well as curriculum and instruction.
Since 1991, LPS has been rated as one of the top school districts
nationally according to Expansion Management, a magazine that addresses
company managers questions about business relocation. This year
Lincoln’s public schools are among the top ten percent of the school
districts
considered.
