Coordinator New Student Orientation Programs

The Coordinator for New Student Orientation is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the New Student Orientation (NSO) Program. This role ensures a welcoming and comprehensive orientation experience for new students, fostering their successful transition into college life. The coordinator will collaborate with various departments and student leaders to enhance orientation programs, manage student staff, and assess the effectiveness of orientation initiatives.

  • Program Development: Design and oversee the execution of a dynamic and inclusive New Student Orientation program that meets the diverse needs of incoming students. 
     
  • Student Management/Engagement: Supervise and train orientation student leaders and interns, ensuring they are well-prepared to assist with program activities and provide high-quality support to new students. Facilitate workshops, sessions, and activities that help new students acclimate to campus life and build a sense of community. 
     
  • Coordination and Advising: collaborate with academic departments, student services, and other campus units to integrate their resources and services into the orientation program. Provide guidance and support to new students and their families, addressing concerns and questions to ensure a smooth transition. 
     
  • Evaluates and assesses events and programs.
     
  • Serve as a liaison to family members and the campus community throughout programming efforts.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelorâ??s degree and experience in student affairs, higher education, student leadership, or another related field are required. 
     
  • Experience with NODA is strongly preferred.
     
  • Experience in student programming, advising student groups, and/or leadership development is required. 
     
  • One to two years of experience in student affairs preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • An understanding of the value of holistic student development and of the motivations of students who participate in co-curricular learning experiences is required. 
     
  • An understanding of and the ability to apply student development and learning outcomes theories is required. 
     
  • The ability to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical base for student activities. 
     
  • Excellent written and verbal communication is required. 
     
  • An appreciation of the Ignatian tradition is preferred. 
     
  • Night and weekend commitments are required.
